Day 10: Flagler Beach – Atlantic Beach

Short summary (Apr 7th, 2022):
We did about 66 miles / 106 km during around 8.5 hrs (mainly side wind).

The greenway always followed A1A along the ocean, typically with a nice shoulder and some bike tracks.

We started again at sunrise along the ocean.

After around 15 miles a nice cafe at the beach.

Already at that point, we saw that we would probably get wet again today (see radar to the left) – and indeed, the next miles we had some warm rain (again, we did not put on our rain gear as it was too warm). Then a heavy rain started and we were lucky enough to find a dry spot immediately.

After this, a nice little restaurant for a late breakfast / early lunch at Anastasia Kitchen (near St Augustine Lighthouse) and we passed through St. Augustine with the old Castillo de San Marcos.

Then continuing on A1A along the ocean, towards Ponte Verda through a long residential area with lots of nice houses but no cafes etc – so we enjoyed a coffee as soon as we arrived in Jacksonville Beach (Bold Bean). And lucky us – only half an hour after we arrived in our hotel, again heavy rain.

We finished this day with a few beers (tasters) and very nice food at REVE brewery. Only unfortunate thing – we had to walk for half-hour to get there (but a walk after a day of cycling helps to refresh the legs …).

As this was our last full day along the ocean, I collected some pictures of special letter boxes (we‘ve seen quite a few of them these days in Florida).
