Short summary (May 31st, 2022):
On our last stage, we did around 50 miles / 80 km in around 7 hrs.
We followed again the road variant on smaller streets with a last small trail in Calais – and then crossed the border to Canada.
This morning, we started in our rain gear as all the week, the weather prognosis was bad for today. But after breakfast in Dunkin Donuts (first time there, but no alternatives in Machias …) …
… the rain had already stopped and after cycling around an hour, the sun came out. What a nice surprise for our last day on the East Coast Greenway! Roughly half-way, we had a little break for a second breakfast in Dennysville.
Then again smaller roads through a picturesque landscape.
And we even saw a bald eagle nesting!
And then – after around 2‘800 miles / 4‘500 km – we arrives in Calais and did a last small trail.
So we took a last photo on the US-side (with Canada in the background and our East Coast Greenway shirts) – with a big thank you to the East Coast Greenway organization for proving such an experience traveling the United States!
We then crossed the boarder to Canada and got in Saint Stephen our rental car (after so much cycling, we need a little change). For the next 10 days, we‘ll be traveling through Canada and then fly back from Montreal to Switzerland. We‘ll now also stop this regular blog – even though some of our friends and family will complain …
