Day 11: Atlantic Beach (FL) – Kingsland (GA)

Short summary (Apr 8th, 2022):
Around 56 miles / 90 km in about 8.5 hrs (with some side and adverse wind).
After St. Johns River Ferry very nice bike trails in Talbot State Parks and Amelia Island until Fernandina Beach. Afterwards a strong contrast with quite some traffic along A1A and US 17.

After 10 hot and humid days, this morning was a little more colder after the strong rain yesterday and the air was not as humid as before. Shortly after Jacksonville Beach, we reached St. Johns River Ferry:

On the other side – a picturesque landscape with nice bike trails and some views on the sea (plus Mayport Naval Base).

The nice bike trails continued on Talbot and Amelia Island.

In Amelia City, we came across SuperCorsa Cycles – Drew and Tasha gave us a warm welcome (and a real italian espresso) and helped us to fill up our stocks.

We continued to Fernandina Beach and had lunch there. Interesting to see – the car park on the beach …

The second half of today was less relaxing – along a large A1A with quote some traffic and then along US17 (and as of this moment, we had the wind mostly against us).

Towards the end of this day, we left Florida and entered Georgia (over a small blue bridge).

Tonight, we had lunch in our hotel room with some very nice pulled pork (look at these smokers) from a little stand near our hotel (note – we first went to a restaurant nearby, but not being served for 1/2 hour made us choose plan B – and that was a delicious idea :-))
