Day 58/59: Portland

The last six days, we did „just“ around 296 miles / 476 km.
We took the proposed greenway variant over Cape Cod that was very nice to go with many trails and a nice ferry boat ride into Boston. After Boston again many trails and a very good signage that made cycling this part a good experience.

On our first day in Portland, we did first our usual laundry and then had very nice lobster rolls at Luke‘s Lobster at Portland pier.

Then we walked a bit through the town …

… and tried two more breweries located side by side – Rising Tide Brewing Company and Austin Street Brewery.

The next day, we visited Victoria Mansion, an old fashionable house from 1850 that is very well preserved incl. the interior and the furniture. It was built by Ruggles Sylvester Morse, who made a fortune in hotels in New York, Boston and New Orleans and built it as his summer house. It features some of the latest technologies of that era – gas lights, central heating, cold and hot running water and a servant call system.

In the evening another brewery, Batson River Brewing, with very nice food and – esp. for Claudia – a fireplace.
