Day 40 – 43: New York

Over the last 5 cycling days, we did about 310 miles / 490 km in rather cold weather with sometimes rain. The greenway way a mixture between very nice trails and sometimes a bit tiring routes through the suburbs to enter or leave the four large cities in this section.

As the weather is rather cold this year and we are also ahead of our schedule, we used the stay in New York to get some more gear (esp normal shoes – sofar we had sandales). Very nice and welcoming – the Norrøna Store in Soho.

We met our old friends, Carol and Ivo, who invited us to a nice dinner in their apartment with a spectacular view on the financial district.

The next day – french pasty and good coffee at Café d’Avignon and a haircut for Christoph at Astor Place Hairstylists:

Followed by a walk back over Brooklyn Bridge (and some more impressions from NY) …

… super beer at Evil Twin Brewing in Dumbo

… and finally a good dinner at Seamore‘s.

Plus – a store we‘ll come back to …

The other day after some coffee, we visited a guided tour through Basilica of St. Patrick‘s Catacombs with quite some insights into the different waves of catholic immigrants (esp Irish & Italian) ….

… followed by a walk along Hudson River …

… and another nice evening with Carol and Ivo.

The next day, we found the – so far – best Croissant in the US at White Noise Coffee.

As we were visiting NY a few times in the past, we went to Coney Island to have one of the famous hot dogs at Nathan‘s and had a walk along the beach.

Then, we went to NY Aquarium – good for us, only few visitors on a Tuesday in May.

Finally, we had a few very nice beers at Wild East Brewing in Brooklyn and ribs at Dinosaur BBQ.

    Schönes Wetter und viele Ausflüge!
    Alles Gute weiterhin.
