Over the last 6 days, we did around 370 miles / 595 km in first quite hot, then quite cold temperatures but without rain. Until Petersburg, we cycled through rather remote areas, then again more urban / residential areas and farmland increasingly more populated towards Washington. The rolling hills continued slightly increasing on our last stage until Washington DC.
We started our first day with a breakfast at “PAUL“ – a french bakery we know well from France. And yes – real „croissants“ and “pain au chocolat“ also in the US.
Then we walked a bit through Washington visiting the White House (as much as a normal tourist can see) snd some other impression (eg – find the French and the Polish general who were fighting in the Revolutionary War).
We then went to REI Co-op to complete our equipment (we have packed for slightly warmer temperatures and everyone keeps telling us that this years spring is rather cold).
Followed by tasting a few nice beers at Red Bear Brewery.
We also started our second day in Washington with a french breakfast (we miss the french pastry a bit – esp. croissants) and no, the tableware is not from Villeroy & Boch.
We did a long walk on the National Mall an saw the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial and the United States Capitol.
We also visited the National Museum of American History.
Finally, we collected our perfectly services bikes from the Trek shop in Georgetown. We had a very nice dinner in Thai X-ing and then some beer in Right Proper Brewing.

Erstens möchte ich meine Bewunderung für euch kundtun! Und zweitens, als Beweis, dass ich euren Blog ganz intensiv verfolge, noch eine Frage anhängen: Bekommt man bei „ Paul“ die Getränke tatsächlich in Villeroy-Häferln serviert?

Liebe Claudia, lieber Christoph, ich habe erst spät (nämlich heute) erstmalig auf Eure Blogseite geschaut, aber dafür konnte ich nun gleich ein recht beachtliches Stück Eurer bisher 33 Tage dauernden Reise in einem Mal gemütlich daheim „konsumieren“ und nachvollziehen. Ihr beiden habt meine Hochachtung und meinen höchsten Respekt! Ich wünsche Euch weiterhin eine reibungsfreie Reise, konstanten und wärmenden Rückenwind, leere Straßen, keine platten Reifen und ein anhaltend reichhaltiges Angebot in den vielen Brauereien, welche Ihr ansteuert!
