Day 23: Elizabethtown – Dunn

Short summary (Apr 20th, 2022):
Today, we did around 80 miles /129 km in about 9 hrs 45 min with again good conditions (sunny weather, almost no wind).
Until Fayetteville, there were again smaller roads for about 40 miles. In Fayetteville, very nice trails for around 10 miles and then again around 30 miles on smaller roads.

This morning started with a very nice breakfast in the Elizabethtown Inn. Then again smaller roads but not as remote as yesterday. We followed the Greenway route until shortly before Fayetteville, where we took a detour for a coffee at Starbucks.

In Fayetteville, the route went through the historic towncenter and then a cemetery.

Then we arrived at the Cape Fear River Tail, a magnificent trail of around 7 miles. Whilst it was a super-nice trail experience, it also includes quite some ascents and descents – so our legs were protesting a little bit after having done already 40 miles …

Next we came through some outer areas of Fort Bragg.

And then again smaller roads until Dunn, the battlefield of Averasborough is nearby. Shortly before Dunn, we crossed again Cape Fear River.

In Dunn – again no brewery. But a nice Taphouse – the Lucknow Bottle & Tap.
