Short summary (Apr 27th, 2022):
We cycled around 69 miles / 111 km in about 9.5 hrs with fresh temperatures and mostly against the wind.
Leaving Richmond, we were soon on smaller roads, then after 30 miles around 10 miles on US1 again (with almost no traffic), then smaller roads until Fredericksburg.
In Richmond some cycle lanes, then soon smaller roads.
We came through Ashland with the railroad tracks cutting through the town.
After that, a section on US1 and then again smaller roads until Fredericksburg.
As there were two large battles fought in Civil War (1862 and 1863), we came across some battlefield memorials and visited the little farmhouse, where Gen. “Stonewall“ Jackson died 1863 from a wound.
Fredericksburg has a nice historic towncenter – and yes, also a brewery: Red Dragon Brewery, specialized in English-style beer.
