Short summary (Apr 26th, 2022):
Today we did only a short stage of around 31 miles / 50 km to be early in Richmond for some sightseeing.
The greenway first followed some smaller roads for around 10 miles, the about 15 miles along the broad Iron Bridge Road and in Richmond then again smaller roads and a nice trail along James River/Belle Isle.
This morning was relaxed cycling with some coffee breaks.
Arriving in Richmond, we were soon on a trail over Belle Isle and reached our hotel in the center at 1300 (early checkin was no problem :-)).
The early arrival allowed us to join a guided tour in the White House of the Confederacy. Interestingly enough, the old house is surrounded by a large hospital today. The tour gave many insights into the life of Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederation. Whilst we were still on the tour, a thunderstorm with some strong rain started – another reason why we had a short stage today.
Some more impressions of Richmond before the rain …
… and afterwards, with the Virginia State Capitol and the Virginia Washington Monument.
Last, but no least, the next highlight of today – Triple Crossing Brewing.
