Short summary (May 30th, 2022):
Today, we did around 61 miles / 98 km in around 8.5 hrs.
We first took the Down East Sunrise Trail, after around 25 miles on the trail we switched to the roads as more and more ATVs were on the trail and the ground became more sandy so that even with our gravel bikes with broader tires, we could not decently cycle anymore. So we simply took US-1 until Machias.
In the morning, we got onto the Down East Sunrise Trail right in Ellsworth and it took us through a very picturesque landscape.
On the trail we had a quick lunch – and I found real Speck (real South Tyrolean) in Hannaford, so we had a nice lunch.
Briefly after the break, we switched to the road with more nice views.
In Machias, bad little waterfalls and Bad Little Brewing (named after these falls). And our Hotel River View Inn deserves its name.
